Day 1 Proper

Updated: Dec 23, 2024

Above photo – tickets for one of the best stage shows ever made! and a goodie bag from the CTCV – thank you very much!

We stayed in the hotel just across the road from arrivals at Melbourne airport. Our flight landed at about 21:30 and we were in our room for 22:00, such is the joy of travelling with hand luggage!

We dumped our stuff in the room and then headed to the bar  – Winnie in Melbourne blog tells you all about the joys of our late night drink in the bar.

We were being collected from the airport hotel at 09:30 Wednesday, and taken on to our apartment in Melbourne where we stay until early Sunday morning.  We got up, breakfasted and went for a walk. We were hoping for a decent long walk but there was no walking route off the airport. As such, modern design dictates that you drive, not walk. We walked as far as we could and came back again.

Collected as per schedule we were then driven into Melbourne. Seeing the different buildings and hearing some history was great. Thank you!

We checked in and again dumped stuff in our room. We found our bearings and off shopping we went. I had left purchasing a judging outfit until we arrived as apparently, clothes are cheaper in Australia than back home. Plus the fact, it would have meant bringing more luggage and as you are gathering by now, I can’t be doing with dragging large suit cases around.

We trotted off in to Melbourne aided by an approximate idea (thanks to organising Barbara) of where to shop. We found the suggested shop/s and shopped! New outfits purchased, thank you to a very good concierge and assistant who looked after me very well indeed! Then off to purchase shoes. My feet are more suited to wellington boots than glamour shoes so we had to trundle off to another shop and purchase suitable footwear. I was not sad about that as there was a buy one pair, get a 2 half price. Oh dear, 2 pairs had to be purchased. The pink Josef Seibel’s and the blue Ziera’s will accompany the new outfits well.

Please note the “s” on the end of outfit. One cannot purchase just one outfit; one has to purchase 3! Well, 3 may be an exaggeration, sort of 2.5. New trousers x 2, new shirts/blouses x 2 and a fabulous pink, yes, I did buy pink, tweed long line coat! I am in love with the coat/jacket/tweed thing. I saw it and it was one of those “I have to have you” and make the rest of the outfit fit this coat/jacket/tweed thing.

I am not great with wardrobes and creating outfits but the shop assistant and concierge were most helpful.

On the way back to the hotel, we passed one of the theatre’s. This one showing Harry Potter and The Cursed Child. Oh wow, we both said together. We have been trying to get tickets to see this in London for ages but the dates can’t tie up with dogs shows, archery events (the other half’s obsession) and dog sitter availability. We dived in and spoke to the lovely lady on reception. The conversation went like so..

“hi, any tickets available for tonight’s show”

“yes, there are”

“what seats are available please”

“we have these front row seats would they suit”

“front row, can I see the layout plan please”

I have been to live theatre before, sitting in the front seat isn’t always the best seat in the house. I like something mid-way back and pretty central then you get to see the spectacle of the show and are not to close as to miss bits because parts of the stage are in the way.

On surveying the layout plan, these were really good seats

Front row of the dress circle will do very nicely

“yes  please, can we take two tickets for tonight’s performance please”

That was that, within 5 minutes of walking in, we had tickets!

Can’t wait for 7pm tonight.

Massive thanks to the Cairn Terrier Club of Victoria for inviting me over to judge and for creating our opportunity to see so much within  Australia.

Off to dig out my Gryffindor outfit…
